We tend to be big on priorities and making lists of important hierarchy. If as a Christian, you made a list of all the most important things to pay attention to in your life, what would be at the very top? Today’s text gives us strong direction from Jesus concerning what should be at the top of every Christian’s list…

Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus’ feet and heard His word. But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore, tell her to help me.” And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.””

(Luke 10:38–42, NKJV)

The most important priority for every Christian should be sitting at the feet of Jesus to learn and worship and grow. There is an old saying, “What you are when you are alone with God, that you are – and nothing more.”

What is the highest priority of your life? If it’s not spending time with Jesus to know Him, love Him and serve Him, you’ve got some adjustments to make.

Consider what some of the spiritual giants of the Bible said and wrote…

King David said…

One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek: That I may dwell in the house of the Lord All the days of my life, To behold the beauty of the Lord, And to inquire in His temple.” (Psalm 27:4, NKJV)

Jesus said to a man enslaved to his wealth…

… “You still LACK ONE THING. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, (Get rid of all your distractions) and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, FOLLOW ME.”” (Luke 18:22)

The Apostle Paul wrote…

Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but ONE THING I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Therefore, let us, as many as are mature, have this mind; and if in anything you think otherwise, God will reveal even this to you. Nevertheless, to the degree that we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us be of the same mind.” (Php 3:13–16)

My Christian friend make God’s first priority for you be your first priority.
