In today’s text, Jesus makes one final attempt to reveal His true identity to the hard-hearted religious leaders of His day.
Then Jesus presented them with a question. “Why is it,” he asked, “that the Messiah is said to be the son of David? For David himself wrote in the book of Psalms: ‘The Lord said to my Lord, sit in the place of honor at my right hand until I humble your enemies, making them a footstool under your feet.’ Since David called the Messiah ‘Lord,’ how can the Messiah be his son?”” (Luke 20:41–44, NLT)
It’s a very sad truth, that often the people furthest from God’s kingdom are the religious. There are so many false religions and cults in the world that stubbornly hold to their belief system but deny the true identity of Jesus Christ and refuse to submit to His lordship over their lives.
Jesus is “THE SON OF DAVID” by earthly genealogy
This is a record of the ancestors of Jesus the Messiah, a descendant of David and of Abraham:” (Matthew 1:1, NLT)
Jesus is “THE SON OF GOD” by Divine reality
The Good News is about his Son. In his earthly life he was born into King David’s family line, and he was shown to be the Son of God when he was raised from the dead by the power of the Holy Spirit. He is Jesus Christ our Lord.” (Romans 1:3–4, NLT)
In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God.” … So, the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son.” … No one has ever seen God. But the unique One, who is himself God, is near to the Father’s heart. He has revealed God to us.” (John 1:1, 14, 18, NLT)
Jesus is LORD OF ALL, especially to those who believe
This is the message of Good News for the people of Israel—that there is peace with God through Jesus Christ, who is Lord of all.” (Acts 10:36, NLT)
If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.” (Romans 10:9–10, NLT)
May we know Him and love Him and follow Him to the end.
