The coming of the Messiah has been hinted at since the first book of the bible (Gen 3:15). The prophet Isaiah who lived 800 years before Christ gave some of the most striking predictions of His coming. Isaiah prophecies that the Messiah would be born of a virgin and would actually be “God among us” (Is 7:14); That He would be a descendant of King David and rule on the throne forever (Is 9:7); That He would suffer for the sins of His people (Is 53:5-6); So much of Jesus’ life ministry, death and resurrection is described in Is 52:13 through 53:12. But the specific prophecy we will look at this Christmas morning will be Isaiah 9:6 where we are given just a few of the titles the Messiah will bear.

“For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6, NKJV.

No one could comprehend the full significance of that little babe in the manger on that first Christmas morning. One title alone could not describe Him. He was and is…

The Wonderful Counselor – The Only One who can guide your life with all the wisdom of God.

The Mighty God – The God Who became flesh and can accomplish anything He wills.

The Everlasting Father – The “father” or “source and origin” of time and eternity itself.

The Prince of Peace – The Only One Who can make peace between you and God the Father through is substitutionary death on the cross for your sins.

As we celebrate this Christmas, understand and embrace the Messiah for all that He is to you personally.

Merry Christmas,

Pastor Mike
