What did God mean when He said in back in Genesis. “…Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness…” Genesis 1:26a

Does God have arms and legs like us? Does he have a body the way we do? We know the scriptures tell us He doesn’t. “God is Spirit…” John 4:24

“Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible…” 1 Timothy 1:17a

Well then in what way are we created “in His Likeness“?

First, understand that God is Triune.

He is three in one, Father, Son and Holy Spirit

“… in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,” Matthew 28:19

We get an indication of this when God said,

“Let US create… in OUR image“…

Creation was a joint effort of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

The New Testament reveals that man was created in three facets…

“Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 1 Thessalonians 5:23

When man fell into sin he became spiritually dead and separated from God.

In today’s text (1Cor 2:9-16) we see that we are restored and reconnected with our God when we are born again. This is the “spiritual birth“…

Jesus said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God… That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” John 3:3 & 6

The only way we can truly connect with God in a genuine and intimate way is through the spiritual rebirth.
