Do you have a godly role model in your life?

Ideally, everyone should have a godly example to follow.

The Apostle Paul exhorts in today’s text –

“Therefore I urge you, imitate me.” 1 Corinthians 4:16

Later in this epistle Paul writes: “Imitate me, just as I also imitate Christ.” 1 Corinthians 11:1

And to the Philippian believers Paul wrote: “Brethren, join in following my example, and note those who so walk, as you have us for a pattern. For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: whose end is destruction, whose god is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame–who set their mind on earthly things.” Philippians 3:17-19

Friends, the best way we learn how to live like a Christian is by example. It’s been said, some things in life are better “caught” than “taught”. And so, true Christianity must be modeled by godly men and women in order that others might follow in their footsteps. We can always read a book on how to be spiritual. But the truly best way to learn is by demonstration. Modeling and doing is our higher path for Christian growth. Read your Bible, yes, but also look for godly people to hang with and learn from. In this way your growth in Christ will be more certain.

Also keep in mind that if you are public about being a Christian, you are being watched. You are setting an example whether you realize it or not. Every Christian is setting an example. Some set a good example. Others set a bad example. What kind of example are you setting?

“…in all things showing yourself to be a pattern of good works; in doctrine showing integrity, reverence, incorruptibility, sound speech that cannot be condemned, that one who is an opponent may be ashamed, having nothing evil to say of you.” Titus 2:7-8
