Today’s text contains a very curious phrase…
“…the Holy Spirit said, “Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.” Acts 13:2b, NKJV.
How does the Holy Spirit speak?
In today’s study we will examine 6 basic ways God speaks.
- Prophetically (1Cor. 12:10, 14:29)
- Dreams and Visions (Acts 10:13, 16:9-10)
- Other Christians (1Cor. 12:7-8)
- Personally (Luke 24:32, Acts 15:22-25)
- The Scriptures (Col. 3:16, Heb. 4:12)
- Circumstances (Acts 16:6-7)
Does the Holy Spirit speak to you? If not, perhaps you need to expose yourself to other believers who are active in their spiritual gifts. Or perhaps you can start by simply reading your Bible more. These are great ways to get started tuning in to the voice of God’s Holy Spirit.
“The spirit openly makes his gift to each man, so that he may use it for the common good. One man’s gift by the Spirit is to speak with wisdom, another’s to speak with knowledge. The same Spirit gives to another man faith, to another the ability to heal, to another the use of spiritual power. The same Spirit gives to another man the gift of preaching the word of God, to another the ability to discriminate in spiritual matters, in another speech in different tongues and in yet another the power to interpret the tongues. Behind all these gifts is the operation of the same Spirit, who distributes to each individual man as he wills.”
1 Corinthians 12:7-11 (Phillips Translation)
