Today, we examine the first of five warnings found in the book of Hebrews. These are warnings of real dangers to every person. These warnings are to be taken seriously. Read today’s text carefully and prayerfully.
Therefore, we must give the more earnest heed to the things we have heard, lest we drift away. For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward, how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him, God also bearing witness both with signs and wonders, with various miracles, and gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own will?” (Hebrews 2:1–4, NKJV)
As we take the warnings of God seriously in today’s text, we must answer several important questions. Who are these warnings written to? What does “drifting away” mean? How serious are the consequences of that drifting? How can we recognize if we are drifting and what can be done about it?
Later in this book the author will remind us of the ultimate answer to all our questions. Look to Jesus (Heb 12:2). Our motto at Calvary Chapel Eagle is and always will be, “It’s all about Jesus”. So, I remind you once again. Look to Him and Him alone. Salvation is not found in a manmade religion, church, or self-proclaimed prophet. Salvation is found in Christ alone.
Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved. (Acts 4:12)
Look to Jesus and you will always find safe harbor!
This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast… (Hebrews 6:19a, NKJV)
