Have you come to the point in your spiritual life that you have given up your religion for God? What I mean is, have you given up trying to earn God’s favor through religious deeds and instead discovered the wonderful biblical truth of righteousness through faith in Christ? Have you traded in your good works for His good work on the cross for you?
Have you exchanged your righteousness for the righteousness of Christ?
Romans 3:21-26 But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference; for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate Hisrighteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.
The doctrine of righteousness through faith is a major theme in the New Testament.
2 Corinthians 5:21 (NIV) God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.
I call it, “The divine swap”. He took our sins and gives us His righteousness as we simply believe in His sacrifice on the cross for us and trust Him to save us.
Romans 4:4-5 Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt. But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness,
The biblical truth of salvation, forgiveness of sins and our right standing with God by grace through faith is likely the most misunderstood truth of the Bible.
Galatians 2:16 knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law but by faith in Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, that we might be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law no flesh shall be justified.
And now that He has saved us, we press onto be all He has saved us to be…
Philippians 3:12-14 Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me. Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.
We are SAVEDby God’s grace through faith. But our spiritual GROWTHrequires our intentional effort to “press on” in Christ.
Keep pressing on! Pastor Mike
