In spite of threats, arrests and beatings the Apostles persevered against all opposition because of the power and presence of the Holy Spirit in their lives. Face to face with the most powerful and influential religious leaders of their day, Peter and the rest of the apostles refused to back down from obeying their lord’s commands…

“Acts 5:28 …saying, “Did we not strictly command you not to teach in this name? And look, you have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this Man’s blood on us!” 29 But Peter and the other apostles answered and said: “We ought to obey God rather than men. 30 “The God of our fathers raised up Jesus whom you murdered by hanging on a tree. 31 “Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. 32 “And we are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him.” Acts 5:28-32

Take note of the resolute stand Peter took in the face of this intimidating threat. May we follow his example.

1.) Peter resolved to always obey God rather than man (V29).

2.) Peter took every opportunity to preach the Gospel to everyone. (Christ’s crucifixion, resurrection and exaltation to the right hand of God V:30-31) Repentance towards God and Faith in the Gospel of Christ bring forgiveness of sins and eternal life (Rom 1:16).

3.) God gives His Holy Spirit to all who embrace and obey the Gospel (V:32).

Father in heaven, give us that same resolve and attitude.

“For the time has come for judgment to begin at the house of God; and if it begins with us first, what will be the end of those who do not obey the gospel of God?” 1 Peter 4:17, NKJV.
