In today’s text we see two angels appearing to the disciples who had just witnessed Jesus ascend into heaven. The words of those angels should still ring in our ears today…

“…Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.” Acts 1:11

If you believe that Jesus ascended into heaven before His disciple’s eyes, then you should also believe in His visible return.

Paul called this belief, “The blessed hope”…

“looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,” Titus 2:13

A belief in Christ’s return has a purifying effect on those who embrace it. – “And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.” 1 John 3:3

The return of our Lord should not be a fearful thought but an encouraging one – “For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. Therefore comfort one another with these words.” 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18

Are you ready for His return?

“For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ,” Philippians 3:20
